The qipao<\/strong>, also referred to as the cheongsam, is a one piece dress that the Chinese are famous for wearing. They have been using this since the 17th<\/sup> century during the rule of the Manchu Empire. It was a chieftain named Nurhachi who introduced the Banner system into the empire so all Manchu families will be organized in administrative divisions. The banner gown which the Manchu women use became known as the qipao.<\/p>\n
